FAQ

What’s new in the 2nd edition?

There is a about a 50% increase in content. I think the book is now the definitive resource for understanding .NET performance. Please see this blog entry for details.

Do I need to be an expert at .NET to enjoy this book?

I believe you will get a lot out of this book whether you’ve been programming for decades or you are just starting out. That said, the book does assume a fairly comprehensive familiarity with .NET features and computer programming in general.

Is there a print version of the book?

Yes! See the Buy page for availability.

Isn’t all of this information freely available on the Internet? Why should I buy this?

Sure, probably. But who has that kind of time? Save yourself countless hours and just buy the book. Your time is far more valuable than the cover price.

Also, one of the issues people face when learning a new topic is that often they don’t know the right questions to ask. This book will teach you the things you didn’t know you needed to know.

Why is the 2nd edition more expensive than the first?

If you are buying ePub or Kindle format, then it is not more expensive (in the US–other markets may vary). The print price has increase because the page count has significantly increased, thereby increasing print costs. Note that I still try to keep the book relatively cheap. A similarly sized book from a major publisher could easily run $45 or more.

Do you have a sample chapter available?

Yes! (First Edition)

What credentials do you have?  Why should I trust you?

Well, in one sense, I’m just another programmer like you. I have worked on big and small projects, things I’ve loved, and others I would rather forget. However, over the last 5 years, I have had the distinct privilege of designing, building, and maintaining one of the most advanced, high-performance, distributed .NET server applications in the world. A big part of that work is ensuring that the performance of the system is top-notch and can scale to accommodate millions of users.

I bought the book from a retailer. Can I also get the PDF for free?

No, sorry. I don’t have any way of tracking that kind of thing. Thankfully, the book is priced very well.

Does the eBook have DRM?

No! I despise DRM. I rely on your honesty to not share this book with others who have not paid for it. Meanwhile, you can read it on any device you like.
